Christians Could Risk Twisting The Bible If They Support Yul Edochie | David Antia

Preamble : Following the news that Yul Edochie has taken for himself another wife, Star Dike, made known through his post on Facebook, where he wrote “ It’s time for the world to meet my son.
His name is STAR DIKE MUNACHIMSO YUL-EDOCHIE. Born by my second wife @judyaustin1
And I love him so much, just as much as I love my other children” there has been a precipitation of arguments in favor of polygamy.
A lot of Christians have argued, that Bible supports Polygamy and that Yul is not wrong since other chosen servants of God like David, Solomon, Abraham, e.t.c also married more than one wife. Whereas there are many cultures that support Polygamy, I seek to establish with proof that biblical tradition does not favor Polygamy. So Christians risk twisting the Bible if they support Yul Edochie on the basis of the Scriptures.

God does not speak foolishly
DOES THE BIBLE SUPPORT POLYGAMY?.
The historical trajectory of the impasse over the unified acceptance of Monogamy is rooted in the Bible. How this is so is not difficult to determine.
David, Solomon, Abraham, Jacob and many other important characters in the scriptures are notable for their practice of Polygamy. This makes it difficult for us to know if the practice is wrong or right.
A lot of times , we are drawn and fixed in the path of these biblical figures and we unavoidably make their actions the word of God and also think of their words as the intention of God.
I have proven elsewhere that, not all their actions and deed can be used as authority of certainty in determining the quality of God’s thought.
Example, the same Paul claimed his words are the word of God while writing to the Thessalonians :
And for this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when ye received from us the word of the message, even the word of God, ye accepted it not as the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also worketh in you that believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2:13 ASV)
Also said this to the Corinthians,
“That which I speak, I SPEAK NOT AFTER THE LORD, but as in foolishness, (2Corinthians 11:17ASV)
TAKING THE POINT FROM WHERE IT WONDERED.
The point which have I tried to impress by making the forgone assertions is that only Jesus have the word of God and He remains like he said, “The way , The Truth and NO ONE goes to his father( meaning no one understands his father’s intentions) EXCEPT by him.(John 14:6)
MY APPEAL BEFORE WE DELVE DEEPER
Dear Believers, please do not stop at the actions of biblical figures while trying to determine the words and intentions of God over a matter. Also consult the Authority of Jesus, IF he said anything about the same matter!
GOD’S INTENTION FROM THE BEGINNING
According to Biblical story of creation, God formed Adam and then formed Eve, a woman. According to the same account, when Adam saw Eve, he exclaimed joyfully, “ Bone of my Bone And Flesh of my Flesh”( Gen 1:23). Following that declaration, God said “For this reason A man shall leave his father and his mother , and be joined to his WIFE(not wives) and they shall become ONE flesh”(Gen. 1:34)
THE ITERATION FUNCTION
Any iteration, function as a command to replicate an already established instruction. This is true for computer as it is true for humans who built the computer.
Jesus while speaking about marriage in Mathew 19: 5 mentioned about a man and a woman in marriage, that “ …they are no longer two, but ONE flesh”.
So one can easily see the agreement between Jesus and God concerning the issue of marriage through that iteration.
WHAT IS THE FUNCTION OF “A” IN THE MARRIAGE VERSE?
“…For this reason A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to HIS WIFE, and they shall become ONE flesh.
The word A is an indefinite article. It is used at the beginning of noun groups which refer to only ONE person or thing.
The singular noun, WIFE, as used in the above verse, completely spell a one -to- one mapping which means that that Monogamy is the intention of God.
POLYGAMY: PERSPECTIVE FROM THE PAST.
The Old Testament have multiplicity of instances where God’s people abandoned monogamy. These people include God’s chosen leaders, Prophets and father of faith. Despite the fact that God clearly warned them( especially Kings) against having more than one wife, They still went ahead and disobeyed God.
Let’s see what is written in Deuteronomy 17:17
Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away:..(Deuteronomy 17:17 ASV)
That God tolerated the failure of his servants which he used mightily , does not mean that they( his servant) didn’t suffer the consequences of going against his will for them to marry only one wife.
We see that in the following instances
1.0 In the case of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar – Jealousy arose when the younger Hagar became pregnant and when the older Sarah could not. ( See Gen 16:1- 5). At the end God asked Abraham to send Hagar away.
2.0 In the case of Hannah. She was a very sad woman and was living in constant provocation by her husband’s second wife, Peninnah ( See 1 Sam 1:4-6)
3.0 In the case of David which we use as reference to justify Polygamy, David’s daughter Tamer by one wife was raped by his son Ammon from another wife ( see 2 Samuel 13). In fact, when Absalom, Tamar’s brother came to the knowledge of Tamar’s disgrace, he plotted vengeance and then kill his Half brother Ammon
4.0 David ran for his life from his own Son because of his polygamous marriage ( See 2 Samuel 15:14)
5.0 In the case of Solomon, one who was esteemed by God and blessed with wisdom more than all inhabitants of the earth in his time( according to the Bible) was punished for polygamy. According to 1King 11: 3-4, God turned his heart away from Solomon because of his WIVES.
From the revelation of this scriptures , one can see that the fact that they were Great and found favor in the eyes of God didn’t prevent them from suffering the effect of their sins against God, regarding marriage.
REFLECTION ON THE POSITION OF PAUL
When Paul spoke about marriage, he made reference to Jesus’ model of “ONE FLESH”. He instructed thus, “… husband love your wife as your self”. He didn’t say “Husband Love your Wives as yourself”. The word “wife” like I said earlier is SINGULAR.
How can we, my believing brethrens, possibly apply the command of “ONE FLESH” to a man and several women?
ANY ALTERNATIVE PROOF?
It is well known fact, that anyone who gets married under English Law and goes outside to marry again, be it traditionally or under the English Law is guilty of bigamy and liable for a sentence or Fine. Churches now gives marriage certificates in tandem with the marriage contract of English Law. This means that if you got your marriage certificate from church, you are not permitted to take another wife or husband for yourself except you go to court and divorce.
This is another Proof that the church agree with “monogamy model” of Jesus and wants it to be binding on all believers
MY CONCLUSION
The biblical comparison of marriage to our divine union and loyalty to God lift the intention of God from the obscured and make it palpable for easy intellection.
Jesus compared the relationship of Man and a woman in marriage to himself (Christ) and his Bride ( The church) . Saying that the same Jesus accepts polygamy would mean that the Church can love him and also love another entity. But God is against Idolatry.
Again, Bible never portrayed polygamy in a good light. This is seen in the many times that God turned his heart away from his servants who married more than one wife
PS: Polygamy is not a sin according to some African Culture and other cultures. It is specifically a sin going by biblical tradition ( this is what I have labored to prove)
My personal opinion is that, if a man can freely take as many wives as possible, the wives should also be free to take as many men as possible – let us live with the confusion since we can’t embrace the natural order that comes with one man one wife
Interesting! You have established important fact here. Kodus
